Donors and friends of COBS enter the Black Tie & Tennis Shoes Gala 2019

We’ve been fortunate to work with Colorado Outward Bounds School for nearly a decade. We’ve been on-course with counselors; we’ve been next to students building character and have been able to see our own growth thanks to this amazing organization.

Each year, the organization hosts the annual Black Tie & Tennis Shoes Gala. This fun event serves as a fundraiser for the organization, as well as the largest congregation of students, counselors, administrators and donors all in one place. It’s here where friends of COBS are also able to see how their donations are directly affecting students and future generations of adventurers and explorers.

The evening opened with hors d’oeuvres and drinks as attendees filed into Mile High Station. The split level venue has been home to the gala for several years, and COBS does an amazing job of transforming the interior. The first floor has tables for the guests centered around the stage where student eventually share their stories. Oh, and this is also where the rapid-fire emcee hosts the auction, but we’ll get to that.

The upstairs at Mile High Station is transformed into a silent auction. Tables filled with outdoor gear, vacations, event tickets, art and other gifts surround the full wrap-around balcony to offer attendees the chance to bid on items for the silent auction.

Our team, aside from roving around the venue snapping photos and capturing video content, set up a painted backdrop photo booth. F4D resident artist Rob Bell (see more of his work here, and keep an eye on his instagram @illlcommunication) painted Mount Massive to use as a backdrop for photos — and attendees loved it! See all the fun photos from the night here, and have a glimpse below to for sneak peek of what it looked like.

As the silent auction came to a close and attendees started to gather around their tables, a former counselor took to the stage to share his story about being a counselor with COBS. COBS Board President Peter O’Neill discussed more of the values before letting the auctioneer take the stage to begin the auction.
