CASE STUDY
RAPIDGRASSDubbed “mountain music”, Rapidgrass has attracted international acclaim for their unique sound and nature-inspired lyrics. The line-up includes Mark Morris (guitar, lead vocals); Coleman Smith (violin); Charlie Parker Mertens (upright bass); and Alex Johnstone (mandolin, vocals). Since becoming fans of the band, F4D Studio has had the opportunity to create four mountain-loving videos for the group including “Happy Trails”, “I-70”, “The Banff Sessions”, and most recently “Take Him River.”

Trails
F4D Studio is always excited to have the chance to work with Rapidgrass on a new music video. The combination of creativity, adventure, and fun that goes into every Rapidgrass shoot is why we love working with the band.
“I-70”
In our first collaboration with Rapidgrass, we captured everything needed to bring their song, “I-70”, to life. The video depicts the sorrows of the group as they fall victim to the traffic that accumulates without fail, on every trip up to the Colorado ski resorts. All Coloradans who enjoy winter in the mountains can relate to the joy of finally making it to the ski lift after hours of sitting in traffic on I-70.
“Happy Trails”
The “Happy Trails” music video is the highest production video F4D has done for Rapidgrass. Utilizing an abandoned mine, a large group of extras, and set/costume design to create the scene, we were able to transport Mark Morris, from the mountain trails to the old-timey bar seen in the video. Make sure to check out our behind the scene’s video to see how the music video came to be!
“The Banff Sessions”
In 2019 the F4D team had the chance to document Rapidgrass’s experience while recording an album at the Banff Center for Arts and Creativity. The opportunity came after the band was granted the Fleck Fellowship, which allowed them to record their new album in the Banff Center studio. Experiencing the creative flow of the band while simultaneously being surrounded by the breathtaking landscape of Banff made for a once in a lifetime opportunity.
“Take Him River”
One of the songs recorded during the band’s time in Banff was “Take Him River.” The song is an ode to Mark Morris’s cousin, an avid kayaker and adventurer, who sadly took his own life. For the video, the F4D team joined Mark and the band on Arkansas River which Mark’s cousin kayaked every chance he had. We are honored that Mark would trust our team with such a meaningful video, and are happy to be able to help further the memory of Mark’s cousin.
